Not yesterday, not yesterday but long ago, I seem to recall there were these stories where a guy and a girl would be pen-pals for a long time and then finally set up a meeting.
The girl would say that she’d be wearing a rose in her hair.
The guy would show up and there would be a (and there’s no delicate way to say this) fat lady with a rose in her hair. He would approach her and say something like “Hello.”
Then out of nowhere the real girl would show up, and she had just used this other lady as a final test of personality, if he was disgusted by the lady with the rose in her hair she would know his true character but if he wasn’t (and he never was) she knew it was true love forever.
I suppose these stories don’t exist anymore because of technology, but seriously, what the hell was going on?
Did the real woman just go up to someone and be like “Hey, you’re fat and ugly, will you pretend to be me so I can fake out the guy that I like?”
Was the true test of character whether or not the guy would flinch at seeing a supposedly unattractive person, or was it that a person would be insane enough to manipulate someone into pretending to be them and then use that person to trick someone they are in love with but have never seen?
